How fast does an alert reach me after an incident happens?+
Usually within 2–5 minutes of the first verified report. We poll trusted news wires, official sources and emergency feeds every few minutes. As soon as something matches one of your saved cities and clears our severity gate, the push fires. Push delivery itself is whatever Apple's network does – almost always sub-second.
Does Warnely work offline?+
The app needs a network connection to receive new alerts and sync your saved cities, since incidents come from live sources. But all your downloaded country guides, embassy contacts, emergency numbers and the last-known incident wire are stored on-device, so you can open the app on a plane or in a dead-zone and still see what you saved before. When you reconnect, everything refreshes automatically.
How is this different from FCDO or US State Department travel advisories?+
FCDO and State Department advisories are slow-moving country-level guidance – useful before you travel, slow to update during an incident. Warnely sits one level down: real-time city-level alerts for the specific events FCDO won't push you about. We surface FCDO and State changes too – you get both layers in one app.
Can I get notified about cities where my family lives or travels?+
Yes. Save any city in the world to your watchlist – your home city, your parents' city, your kids' university town, anywhere a friend is on a trip. You'll get a push the moment a major incident hits any of them. Free tier covers one saved city; Premium is unlimited.
What kinds of incidents will Warnely actually alert me about?+
Terror attacks, severe weather warnings, civil unrest, wildfires, major transport disruption, large-scale crime events, public-health emergencies, government advisory changes. We deliberately ignore minor crime, single-vehicle accidents, weather watches that don't reach warning level, and anything our classifier rates below the alertable threshold. The bar is “would this change what a traveller in that city does next?”
Will I get spammed with notifications?+
No. Most cities trigger zero alerts most weeks. Even in high-incident periods we cluster related events and send one notification per incident, not one per article.
How does Warnely handle my location?+
Your phone's GPS never leaves the device. We store the city you save (London, Tokyo, etc.) but not your live coordinates. Travel detection on Premium uses iOS's significant-location-change API to detect when your home city has changed, but the inference happens on-device – we just receive the updated city name.
When will Android be available?+
Soon. We launched on iOS first to keep the engineering surface tight while we proved out the alert-quality model. Android is on the roadmap and will come once iOS feels finished.
